Engine problem?

The most random thing, my fx runs fine and nice normally.. haven't done anything new lately.. but today, I was at a mc donald's drive through and the car starts to shake violently and I see the RPM go unsteady. I waited to see if the engine stalls, but it doesn't so I pulled into the parking lot and turned off the engine first, and popped the hood. Everything seems fine, fluids are all there nothing is missing, but I smell something burning. I restart the car and I hear the put-put sound of a dying car, and the car shakes to the core, and the Service Engine light blinks. I called the dealership, the service is closed and so I debated whether to have the car towed but my friends say it should be fine and I drive it home....
As I am driving, the throttle response is close to none, I can't hear my exhaust at all...
there is no power even when I floor the gas.

When I get home, the hood is STEAMING, and it is HOT. So we hosed down the engine bay.. don't know if that's a smart thing.. and don't know where to go from now.

Some background information.. I have 29k on the odometer, I have an LMS SRI, TBS, and a cat-back HKS. I had an oil change 2 months ago about 3k miles ago.. All the fluids appear to be fine, engine oil dipstick showed normal.. and the oddest thing is the heat gauge in the dashboard while driving home showed NORMAL the entire drive, as shakey and explosive as it sounded..

So, anyone have any ideas on what is going on from what's said?

and anyone know if this kind of thing is covered under warranty?

my guess is that it could be a bad ignition coil. the dealership should have you up and running in no time. good luck.

It almost sounds like you have a clogged converter, would make it run rough, have no power, not take gas, stall at idle, also excessive amount of heat (converters will glow red).

Keep us updated on that. Your FX should be still under the warranty. Just the hassle for not having the car around. Possible radiator problem? (just guessing..)

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME, EXCEPT FOR THE SMOKING ENGINE PART.
IT IS A "SHORTED IGNITION COIL"
This happened to me about a month ago, I had 31k on my ODO
Dealership will replace the coil
Sorry about the caps, but it was just ironic.

Yes, this is exactly it.. supposedly all 6 ignition coils somehow died..
The dealer fixed the problem, the first time.. but then I got my car back, and less than a week later, it happens again.. same problem..
so I took it in to Glendale infiniti, a second time, and it took them a week to re-fix it and check if there are any other problems, and they found none, just the ignition coils, but the service advisor said he replaced the IMPD? no idea what that is, and the ECM, and all six coils.
I got the car back last wednesday, and today, the car did the same thing, THIRD time.
A serious waste of time waiting for the tow truck and waiting at the dealership.
If I get my car back, I want to make sure there are NO MORE PROBLEMS like this..
Any ideas on what I should do?:mad:

this could be a be bunch of different things.... your fx just went into the "limp" mode or whatever it's called.... just go to the dealer so they can get the code
