I'm on my Dell 640m notebook right now at work. At home I use my own personal build pc.

I have a Dell 800 something rather notebook that's about 3+ years old (15.4" screen)

and back in January I bought a Gateway Notebook Tablet... I love the tablet concept! But really wanted a Fujitsu which I couldn't afford...

I highly recommend tablets but if I was doing it again, I'd get a Toshiba...

but about 70% of the time I'm posting
with my Treo 700w phone  (like I am right now ;) )

Im using my laptop right now.

    Dell XPS M1210
    Windows XP SP2
    Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2Ghz
    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 RAM
    256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7400
    12.1" Widescreen LCD
Sony DVD +/- R/RW (dual layer)
Built in swivel Logitech webcam w/ mic

it has everything i need and nothing i dont. works well for gaming although a bigger screen would have been better (like the new M1310). ultra portable laptop and it still gives me almost 5hrs of battery with the extended battery on the go.

in my new house ill probably build a new PC to put in the library. i can use it as a "host" computer in the house and run all my external HD's off it and such. my dad is using a dimension 8400. other PC is the one i built before but its around 4 yrs old and needs replacing.

I noticed that people who mod their cars also tend to mod/build their own pc's too. And probably other things in their home as well.

thats pretty true. i am always trying to mod something and even if i cant do it myself i get somebody else and help out...i guess its just a "hands-on" kind of thing

Dr.2K: its a P4, the whole computer isn't actually that old, i think the only original part is the CPU and monitor...heres the specs i just copy and pasted off a computer forum i go on http://www.hardforum.com/

    ~Abit IS7~
    ~Thermalright XP-90 (lapped)~
    ~Intel P4 3.0C @ 3.55GHz (lapped)~
    ~2x512mb Crucial Ballistix PC3200 @ 237mhz [2.5-4-4-8]~
    ~ATI Radeon X800XL (450/600) w/ Arctic Cooling Silencer 5~
    ~OCZ PowerStream 420Watt~
    ~BenQ DVD-RW~
    ~Albatron 17" LCD~
    ~(2) 250GB WD Caviar 16MB Cache SATA2 ~

"lapped" is sanding the heatsink or processor so its more flat than from the factory so you get better heat transfer;) i dropped my CPU in a bucket of water while doing this...still works

Wow that brings back memories! But your hardware config. is very similar to mine.

    -Abit IC7-G Max3
    -Thermalright XP-90C
-Intel P4 3.4C @ 3.8GHz , It will run faster but at the expense of noise and too much heat in the room. Was planning on doing a phase change unit back then but it would have been an endless money pit.
    -2x512mb mushkin PC3500 @ 230mhz [2-2-2-6]
    -ATI Radeon X850XT Plat (540/590)
    - PC Power & Cooling
    - Dell 24in LCD Display
    - 2 Terabytes HD

Few old pics of the system at home. Getting tired of this jet engine next to me. :err:Need a quieter system now. But need to rebuild the htpc first.

You guys have some crazy PC's.......nice.

My pc was bought in early 2003, a Dell Dimension 4550. Not a big gamer so I'm thinking of going with a Mac in a few months, not sure. Waiting for there new os Leopard to come out in a few weeks. Searching right now for a pc laptop for my daughter. Nothing fancy just something to get her through high school. Looking at Dell coupons daily.

It was fun and all back then. I used to be a big online gamer and it lead to building and modding my own pc's. Trying to have the fastest pc with the latest fastest and greatest hardware was key . Now I no longer play online games and do not have the time or inclination to upkeep my pc's so it just rots now. I prefer a quieter environment now .
I never got into macs so I wouldn't know where to start if I bought one. But I always did want to give them a try.

Gil Dell's laptops are inexpensive and has everything your daughter would need for school. Good choice.

  15. Dr.2K, I was like you once building those crazy gaming rigs. I still build my own desktops whenever I'm in the market for an upgrade, but between my work and personal laptop I don't see a need to.

Omg...that's one crazy tower. All those top fans!

Once you go mac ya never go back!
Os 10 is amazing, and unix based rocks. Running a quad core right now, and it'll pretty much dance around most shit out there. No hello kitty components inside the box either. Really good for making avs too . . Duh

  18. It's not the fans that make that rig cool it's the water cooling and those oh so nice WD360 Raptors.

As for Macs, unless I'm in graphics design I dont care for them. I hate user friendly interface.

  19. I actually have 3 pcs... shoulda bought car mods instead... lol

    DSP-500 counterstrike edition

    PC NUMERO DOS:

    Fujitsu laptop (for school)
