I came across this when I was checking out ebay. The theory behind this makes sense to me, and since my FX has about 75K, I said why not...it can't hurt

Interesting.....take some pics for us - I'd like to see what it catches on your next oil change Turk
Will do...hopefully I'll have nothing to show you guys though :err::laugh:.
I did something similar recently on my last oil change. I used a magnet from a old Hard drive and stuck it on the oil filter. $0
pretty sure it wont pick up anything unless you have something majorly wrong and have pieces of metal falling off your engine but who knows...it might actually do something
Hopefully I'll never see it catch any metal :laugh:.
Look at this site

^^^^^^^^^^^^interested in seeing actual pictures of the plug after your next oil change...
Have on in as well. Things don't cost that much, so always worth trying. And doesn't have any negativ effects.
I'll definitely take pics. And I agree with Ray, it does not cost much, so the worst can happen is...I have an extra drain plug .

any updates?
Been running the magnetic drain plug for a little over a year. When i do my oil change, i wipe down the magnet and it's a bit dirty. Not metal particals but fine dirt. Guess it does it's job.
So far so good. Knock on wood, 138K miles and plug comes out clean every oil change.
Dirt particles or metal particles? If I were you, I would pay close attention next time you do an oil change and make sure you can identify what's on the plug. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in and make a suggestion, but that would be 'my' first step before starting to worry. It's probably nothing, but better play it safe imo.
I've been using mobil1 since the very first oil change when the FX was brand new and even though my FX has 138K miles now, still nothing (no particles of any kind) that would cause worry on the drain plug. I change the oil every (more or less) 4K miles even though I use mobil1.
I use mobil 1 also but at evry 6 thousand.... I will snap pics next time hope is all ok damn my memories are bad......
